VICTORIAN COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIPS BASKETBALL FINALS

Congratulations to the Junior Girls Basketball team who were solid competitors at the VCC Junior Finals MSAC last Thursday. The team narrowly lost their first match 21-22 to Berwick SC and all their other round matches had close results.Along the way, HT played Bacchus Marsh Grammar, Alkira College and finally Flinders College in the quarter finals.

Again, a big "thank you" to the parents who made the special trip into Albert Park to support the girls. Also thank you to Mr Wes Smith and Ms Julieanne Douglas for their work with the team. It was a great experience and shows that we are competitive, have talent and can play well against schools other than EISM schools – some of which spend a lot more school time playing basketball.

VOLLEYBALL VICTORIA 3 DAY SCHOOLS CUP

Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday, eight Year 10 girls headed down to Dandenong Stadium which, while is better known as a basketball centre, is actually also the State Volleyball Centre. After a short preparation period, the girls took on the U17 Division 1 competition. They played Canterbury Girls SC, PEGS, and St Michaels in the pool rounds, and St Margaret's in the Semis and St Michaels in the finals playoffs.Again, HT participated in the hard pool (PEGS won the competition with Canterbury taking second place). Our girls made us very proud! They chased every ball, got under the serves to dig the ball high into the air, moved the ball around in their rallies and even found the opposition's floor with one handed spikes. It was exciting to watch them! The opposition teams were expecting to 'white-wash' us…but not so!They had to bring out their best moves to win.Our girls came away with their heads high; they had improved skills and game understanding, they were more consistent with their hits and serves and were stronger with their all round game play. We experienced game refereeing duty and I learnt correct volleyball scoring! We thank Mr Dan Higgins, our Volleyball Program Head Coach, Mr Rob Apps, our team coach, Ms Ser Lein Wan who assisted coaching, and Enis Besirevic of Year 10 who assisted the team in their training and matches.Thank you too, to the parents who so kindly supported the girls and cheered them on as they won each point.
